Pits & Divots:
These result from granite’s crystalline structure or characteristics, which can sometimes result in small spaces that form between the varying mineral crystals. In some instances, certain tiny crystals may also be removed during the polishing process, causing the pits to become more visible. Various steps are taken during the finishing process to reduce the visibility of these bits, but they cannot be totally avoided in all granite types. Pitting contributes to the stones unique personality. Pitting will not become worse with regular use or the passage of time.
Fissures:
A natural result of the heating and cooling of the stone during its formation millions of years ago. Fissures will not grow or expand over time. Sometimes fissures appear as though a piece of fine “hair” is on the surface.
